The Purpose and Mission

Hello and welcome to our ANEW Insight blog, also found at ANEW Insight, a platform dedicated to helping you redefine your relationship with your body, mind, and spirit. ANEW stands for Advanced Nutrition and Emotional Wellness. ANEW Insight is for busy adult professionals who want to improve their relationships with their bodies, their families, and their work. Struggling with anxiety, depression, weight gain, or life transitions can be overwhelming—as can the challenges of relationships with your spouse, children, or work. It is our mission to inspire and guide your journey to the highest level of happiness, health, and holistic wellness. My name is Dr. Supatra Tovar (PSY31949), and I will be your guide on this transformative journey.

I am a clinical psychologist, registered dietitian, and accredited fitness expert. With my multidisciplinary approach, I’ve been fortunate to help many clients overcome a myriad of challenges ranging from eating disorders to depression and anxiety. At the core of my practice, I use research-proven techniques to instill practical habits that harmonize both body and mind.

This blog is an extension of ANEW, Advanced Nutrition and Emotional Wellness, a company born out of the success stories of my clients. ANEW aims to guide even more people through the intricate journey of improving our relationships with our mind, body, and spirit. Here, you’ll find a treasure trove of expert advice, actionable tips, and empathetic community support. Our primary focus will be to empower you to break free from the shackles of diet culture, cultivate mindfulness, and build a healthy mindset.

Why This Blog Matters

As one of the only clinical psychologists in the country who is also a registered dietitian and accredited fitness expert, I’ve noticed how intertwined our mental and physical health are. Yet, society keeps pushing us towards unsustainable diets, unrealistic body standards, and unattainable health ideals. This blog is a step to change that narrative.

In my practice and through ANEW, I’ve developed the 7-step online video course called Deprogram Diet Culture. This flagship program serves as a comprehensive guide to ending the toxic cycles of dieting and weight gain. Alongside this, we’ve also introduced the Mindfulness Cookbook for Busy People under our ANEW Insight series. This blog will serve as another valuable tool in that toolbox, packed full of insights from psychology, nutrition, and exercise science.

What To Expect

In this blog, we will cover a variety of topics aimed at enriching your understanding of yourself and transforming your relationship with food, exercise, and mental health. Each month will have a specific focus, such as exploring the history and impact of diet culture, the psychology of mindful eating, the significance of childhood attachments in adult eating habits, and many more.

Expertise and Credibility

I’ve been honored to share my expertise at several national conferences on topics like disordered eating, dissociation, weightism, and health disparities among minorities. The work has also led to interviews with globally respected newspapers like the Times of London, the Washington Post, and the New York Times.

My doctorate in psychology specializes in the effects of trauma on health and disordered eating, complemented by a Master of Science in Nutrition. I’ve been in private practice for over 20 years, opening my first Pilates studio two decades ago and becoming a registered dietitian in 2015. I now operate my own psychological private practice Dr. Supatra Tovar & Associates. I also serve as co-chair on the disaster response committee for the Los Angeles County Psychological Association and am a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Your Journey Starts Here

Let’s embark on this voyage of self-discovery, compassion, and holistic well-being. I invite you to join this community of like-minded individuals striving for a balanced, fulfilling life, free of the pressures of diet culture. It’s time to start anew; it’s time for ANEW Insight.

Stay tuned for our next post, where we’ll delve into what diet culture is and why it’s so problematic. Until then, be kind to yourself and others.

Best wishes,

Dr. Supatra Tovar
